L'italiana Silvia Cosatanza Romano rapita in Kenya, si sospetta matrice islamica 

Una giovane volontaria italiana di 23 anni, Silvia Costanza Romano, di Milano, è stata rapita sulla costa sud orientale del Kenya, nella contea di Kilifi. Il capo della polizia kenyota Joseph Boinnet ha spiegato che il rapimento sarebbe avvenuto ieri sera intorno alle 20 ora locale. Nell'attacco sono rimaste ferite cinque persone. L'ipotesi che ad agire sia stato un commando del gruppo fondamentalista islamico al Shabaab. 

La responsabile della Onlus: "Le avevamo detto di non andare a Chakama" 

La Farnesina ha confermato il rapimento spiegando che l'unità di crisi si è immediatamente attivata e lavora in stretto contatto con l'ambasciata d'Italia a Nairobi e con la famiglia della cooperante. 

Silvia Romano lavora come volontaria per l'organizzazione Africa Milele Onlus, con sede a Fano, nelle Marche, che si occupa di progetti di sostegno all'infanzia. Era tornata in Kenya agli inizi di novembre, dopo averci già lavorato per alcuni mesi, per partecipare a un progetto di cooperazione internazionale. 

La volontaria è stata rapita durante un attacco a Chakama, a circa 60 chilometri a ovest di Malindi. Non è ancora chiara tuttavia la dinamica del sequestro. 

Le fonti locali stanno riportando diverse ricostruzioni: alcune parlano di un assalto nella zona del mercato del villaggio di Chakama, altre, come The Standard, di un attacco diretto alla casa per bambini gestita dalla Ong italiana. 

Il quotidiano locale The Nation ha raccolto le testimonianze di alcune persone presenti sul posto al momento dell'assalto che dicono di aver visto circa 80 "uomini armati in modo pesante" attaccare il villaggio sparando in aria. The Nation dice anche che si ritiene che il commando appartenga alle milizie di Al-Shabaab, ma per ora non ci sono conferme ufficiali sull'identità dei sequestratori, né ci sono state rivendicazioni. 

La Procura di Roma ha aperto un fascicolo di indagine. Nel procedimento, coordinato dal pm Sergio Colaiocco, si ipotizza il reato di sequestro di persona per finalità di terrorismo. 

Nella zona ci sono stati rapimenti di altri stranieri da parte dei fondamentalisti islamici di al Shabaab che si contendono con l'Isis l'egemonia per la jihad nel Corno D'Africa. L'ultimo risale al 2012, sei anni fa. 

Chad Joshua Kazungu, un testimone del rapimento, ha raccontato a Reuters che gli uomini erano armati di fucili AK-47, che hanno attaccato la città di Chakama, parlavano in somalo e hanno aperto il fuoco sulle persone che fuggivano dalla scena. "C'erano tre aggressori e hanno preso di mira la signora italiana", ha detto Kazungu. 

Quando è arrivata la polizia sul luogo gli armati avevano già attraversato il fiume Galana, racconta ancora alla Reuters il testimone dell'attacco in cui sono rimaste ferite cinque persone, tra cui due bambini di 10 e 12 anni. "Il loro scopo era quello di ottenere denaro, ma si sono portati via la ragazza italiana lungo il fiume e prima di lasciare il villaggio, hanno iniziato a sparare in aria e hanno sparato a una donna e quattro ragazzi". 

rispetto all'ipotesi, da verificare, di una responsabilità del gruppo islamista Al Shabaab, si limita a sottolineare che il gruppo "ha rivendicato agguati e attentati solo piu' a nord, nell'area costiera di Lamu, che si trova a circa 200 chilometri di distanza da qui, vicino al confine con la Somalia, oppure piu' all'interno, ad esempio a Garissa, dove nel 2015 durante il blitz nell'universita' furono uccisi 147 studenti".

The local newspaper The Nation has collected the testimonies of some people present on the spot at the time of the assault who claim to have seen about 80 "heavily armed men" attacking the village by shooting in the air. The Nation also says that it is believed that the commando belongs to the militia of Al-Shabaab, but for now there are no official confirmations on the identity of the kidnappers, nor have there been claims.
